Remarks
at Powhatan Tomorrow Candidates Night
October 17, 2007 ... |
My
resume & my record of service over 30 years stands
for itself. The best indicator of future
performance is past performance.
Rather, let me use
these 2 minutes to tell you about the FUNDAMENTAL ME!

I
believe in VISIONING - THE COULD BE!
I
believe in LEADERSHIP * HARD WORK!
I
make the COULD-BE INTO REALITY!

I believe
in showing the utmost respect to citizens -- listening to
and including them. I believe in social
equity. I believe it is a SIN to demean people, or
laugh at them, or dismiss them!
_________________
I believe
that taxes are frightening many of our citizens &
driving out elderly & fixed income, our children,
black & white, who will not be able to live here!
_________________
I believe
in aggressive & innovative economic development to
help alleviate the tax burden on farmers & homeowners.
_________________
I believe
we are progressively, thoughtlessly, almost systematically
destroying our quality of life & the very environment
that makes Powhatan something very special.
_________________
I believe
we have a legal & moral responsibility to address
work-force housing -- for our teachers, police officers,
young folks starting out, for those on fixed incomes, for
those elderly who must downsize because of taxes.
_________________
I believe
that a culture of reaction which characterizes the way we
do business now to protect the status quo or to avoid hard
& unpleasant decisions needs to be replaced by
planning initiative & proactivity. I believe
each of [us] has the obligation to dream of a greater,
good, coupled with a pragmatic framework of can-do hard
work!
_________________
I believe
in the subordination of ego, in open-mindedness ... that
reasonable men & women can work, in good faith,
through disagreements.

This
election is a symbolic moment in our history! I
believe it is a tipping point. I'M READY!
